I cannot even begin to describe my happiness.
For a year now, we've been feeding some stray cats outside of our house. We watched her first litter grow up, and become beautiful cats. We saw, about a month ago, that she was expecting, and then a day later, she was slim again. We knew she had them somewhere close by, but because we were only just starting to be able to pet her, we didn't want to scare her off by trying to find them.
Tonight, I heard a cat fight outside, and I knew my elder car Lint was attacking my younger cat, Little Girl, but when I went outside, I couldn't find them. Little Girl usually hides in the garage, so I went out there to try to find her. She wasn't in the back part, so I looked in the front part. I went over to where the boxes are piled up, and that's when I saw the momma's head sticking out. She'd had them in a hole where the boxes are, on top of a tarp, and in a perfect hole where no one would see them unless they were looking. I put my hand out, and at first she shrank back. Then she allowed me to stick my hand in the hole and pet her. More than that, she kept sticking her head out, wanting me to keep doing it. I noticed one of the kittens trying to crawl back further into a tight space, so I grabbed it and pulled it out. It is the most BEAUTIFUL midnight kitten, with these blue eyes that are like a clear sunny day. It's fur was so soft, and it was so sweet. It cried for a moment, but then let me hold it. He was pudgy and pretty and I didn't want to let it go, but I wanted to gain her trust, so I put it back. I found another one, white with big tan spots, blue eyes, and the sweetest face. It hissed at me, even though I was holding it, but it let me hold it for a moment before I put it back. She then came out of the hole and let me love on her!!
For a whole year, I've hardly been able to touch her because she's finicky, and tonight she came out of her hiding spot and let me pet her! She even came halfway across the garage to see me! My heart has been so full ever since then.
I also got to pet her daughter, a white one with one blue eye, one brown or green eye, but momma got mad when she got too close to where she was eating and hit her, spooking her, and making her run. She wouldn't let me near her after that, but for that moment, I got to pet her, and my heart lifted sky high.
Today has been momentous, marvelous, and I feel like I'm getting closer to my dream of helping to tame them, and then find them homes. They're the sweetest, most beautiful babies, and I don't want them to be street cats. They deserve so much better than to be cold, scared, and wonder if they're going to eat, even though we feed them everyday. I fear them getting hit by cars, or hurt by jerk people.
But I have hope that all is going to work out for the best. I will make it so!
